Haruka was Doumeki's grandfather and the priest of the temple he lives in now. He was famous for being a powerful exorcist and an expert of the field. He had a storage room filled with books about the paranormal, some of them written by him. Everything Doumeki knows about the spirit world, be them horror stories or actual facts, he heard them from Haruka. He also inherited his exorcising abilities with a bow, although not his gift of seeing them, from his grandpa. Haruka could also have premonitory dreams, ride horses, and he smoked cigarrettes. He died when Shizuka was in fifth grade.

But strangely as it is, Haruka's spirit occassionally appears to Watanuki in dreams to give him advise or a hand. In those dreams, Haruka presents himself with a younger version of his living body, so he's the splitting image of his grandson (more like the other way around, as Watanuki says). Haruka's advises are wise, and it shows he adores his grandson and considers Watanuki already as another member of his family -to the point of telling him an embarrassing fact of Shizuka's childhood. He was (...and still is?) a mysterious yet kind man, always willing to help.
